Edit: this obviously was an April Fool's entry. Sorry to all the people that worried so much about DotAlicious with this new rules. :p

Due to the fact that we at DLG are always striving to better our games for our users we have decided on the following changes to DotA and our in game rules for better balance.
With these changes we expect much more even and enjoyable games that ultimately will benefit everyone.

#1a- Potm is now banned in all SL1/2/3 games and is now only allowed in SL0.
#1b - Potm may only be played by people with less than 47% win
Explanation: Anyone with even low skills is able to play potm so easily and in such an overpowered way that it completely skews our win % in games. She has a 5sec stun that deals far too much damage. This in itself is OP if anything. The fact that she has a global invis ulty makes her not suitable for public games where wards and dusts are not nearly purchased enough. Therefore only lowest of low skill users are from now on allowed to play her and only in SL0 games since they don't count towards game statistics.

#2a - SF is now also banned in the exact same way as Potm.
Explanation: He is one of few heroes who has a channeling ulty that doesn't go off CD if interrupted and Icefrog in his retarded brain still hasn't understood that this MUST be nerfed. 900dps for the same mana cost in a huge AoE as a normal heroes single 300dps stun or blast is so OP that our lower skilled users who can't afford to buy bracers etc simply don't stand a chance. Until both SF and Potm are nerfed they are banned in the above criteria. This should even out our game statistics and raise the level of enjoyment for everyone.

#3 The highest EXP player on each team must from now on buy 1 set of obs wards before creep spawn and preferably place them. Not purchasing (after purchase giving to another player to place is fine) will lead to 1 days ban.
Explanation: Since that player has the highest EXP he is also considered the most skilled and therefore won't need as much starting gold or health Regen in lane. He will also be able to most quickly farm up gold to compensate for this early extra cost. This in the long run will greatly increase the quality of our games. Does not apply to SL0 as everyone there is so horribly low. Exception is if a SL2 or SL3 player plays SL0 then this obs purchase rule still applies.

Furthermore we want to note that since IceFrog ignores our requests to change these two heroes, we will soon release our own modified version of the map, maintained by Emmeran as new lead programmer of the map, with those heroes nerfed and a few new items added. Other small changes will be the removal of Techies completely since he adds nothing to the game but turtling. This will also mean a greater interaction between our client and the game for far superior stat tracking.

I hope you are all as excited about this as we are and any feedback you have is always welcomed. Good gaming from the Administration here at Dotalicious-Gaming!

Announcements / DLG Updated changes 21/3/11
« on: March 21, 2011, 02:49:13 pm »
    • We recently implemented the possibility to promote and demote players skill level access manually. This means we can give a well known player who just joined our community the chance to play SL3 games directly or for example if a current player somehow managed to reach SL3 or even SL2 by stacking with his mates but is far from skilled enough on his own to belong there the demotion he so rightfully deserves.
Both are just off the top of my head examples of Promotion/demotion uses and are in no way exclusively the reasons for it's implementation.

    • As a result of this which was unforeseen the MM system would skew the teams completely since a promoted player would have much less Exp than the others thereby being very underrated and making the teams unfair.
To remedy this we are adding a code which will make the MM system recognize promoted players as having 1350 exp. This is roughly the Average amount of EXP of sl3 players. This should mean that a promoted player is counted as being somewhere in the middle of the SL3 exp range and thus being rated as average when MM balances the teams.Hopefully this will be done by next week but since so few players right now are promoted it shouldn't be affecting too many games all too much.

    • We Also have added the possibility to votekick players who are muted. Earlier it has been that only players with 15PP's or higher can be votekicked. As an added incentive to care more about punishments any player who is muted can now also be votekicked. This makes the mute punishment a little more clear to it's purpose as well as an expansion of it's detrimental effect on you should you have it applied as a result of any offense you may have done.

    • We tweaked our "Help" menu slightly also. And soon we will be re-working the layout a little more drastically as to make finding information and everything else easier for even our newest users.

  • We are also working on the game lobby chat function to implement some new features. Atm there are some bugs but hopefully they will be ironed out soon.
Among other features will be that the previous forced auto scrolling will stop and that players profiles will be directly accessible from the chat. This should make interaction easier as well as reading easier.

Feedback / Help us help you
« on: February 21, 2011, 07:30:45 pm »
So we are going to start changing the layout of specifically all the information new and even old players need to know about DLG.
Stuff included would be:
Forum rules
ingame rules
penalty systems
automated systems
staff lists
how to guides
FAQ's
Do and do-not's
General questions
etc and so on...

We will be trying to collect everything onto a single page for easier overviews and search ability (ctrl-F for example). What we need from you guys is this:

Tell us everything you wish to know but can't find anywhere.
Tell us stuff you think that is incorrect
Stuff that is outdated and needs re-writing
stuff you wonder about but have been too afraid to ask (since i'm a bitter bastard and too mean to answer in pm's.)
Stuff that is missing completely
and so on etc

Please though. no discussions in this thread just as detailed information about what you wish us to add.

Example:
Quote
Hi, i wish you would explain the multi accounting rules better. there is already an explanation here (insert url) and here (insert url2) but they don't completely cover everything. could you list that here and in detail please
or
Quote
Hi, could you please update and add more detail around why my and other peoples accounts aren't approved? I can't find any info anywhere and it would help a lot

And so on. Since i'll be using this thread directly for compiling this new help page i'd appreciate that even our staff input their opinions here also to make it easier for users to see what has been and what hasn't been mentioned already. Also the more the better. Small things as well as big. Hopefully this won't take more than a week or two to complete before i can start working on the end product.

Thankyou for helping us to keep developing and improving Dotalicious-gaming!

Announcements / Stat reset changed to once per 100 days only
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:20:15 pm »
Since we are applying more and more changes to our ranking and scoring system that are aimed at the long term while we still allowed a user to reset his stats anytime he wanted there was obviously a loose end that needed to be dealt with. We changed it to once every 100 days for this reason.

Lets hear your guys opinion on this.

P.S.

We also agree that we don't often enough explain in detail all the changes we make and will try and better ourselves at this. Apologies from us to you regarding that matter. The reason normally is that neither one of us have time to sit down and write a lengthy post about everything we do. Even more so we more often than not are just so tired of reading 10 good posts of feedback in a thread that is 10 pages long. It gets tiring and the energy we have left is better spent on the actual changes than explaining our every action before we become too demotivated. What we ask from you guys is to raise the overall quality of your posts and we will try and do the same. I hope that's a fair deal.

Announcements / DLG's future and expansion
« on: January 19, 2011, 12:22:01 am »
Dear members

With the daily increase of new members and forum users at DotAlicious we face new problems. You might have noticed that the DotAlicious main server in Bavaria is being overloaded at certain moments and this stress is causing longer website-load times and game server overloads since they all depend on the Bavaria server to function.

The only solution is newer and better servers. DotAlicious looks to the future and wants to be prepared for even more users coming here therefore we have to invest in renting solid servers that give us reliability and power. Naturally this costs a lot of money. We at DotAlicious always strived to have an ad-free page and we want to keep it like that but currently everything is privately financed. Meaning we work with 0 income. Therefore we need your help.

You can help us by donating money to our Paypal account, any amount is welcome and we appreciate every single dollar or Euro you want to give us. With your help we can assure the future of DotAlicious. Even as little as a couple of Euro from half of our users could potentially pay for a new server for several months. We assure you every dollar or Euro will be well spent solely on DLG's servers.

Thank you in advance and good gaming

The DotAlicious staff

Announcements / Skill level promotions and demotions
« on: January 02, 2011, 08:09:27 pm »
My proposal:

Selected trusted players get the rights to comment and suggest other players promotion and demotion from the skill levels. The actual promotion and demotion would only be done by myself and eventually Emmeran and other staff members once the system gets rolling long term and i can't keep up anymore.

Comments made by these trusted players as well as my own judgement of players skills over a number of games will allow me to give certain players skill lvl 2 access even if there rank and other requirements are not enough for it on their own. Most likely you will need a vouch from an established top ranked and known player also as well as a staff member (not myself) but details on exactly how to perform this is not important atm.

I will also be able to demote players to lower ranks of games since their skill might not match their actual rank and scores. It's very easy to get skill lvl 1 now and that's the purpose of it of course but we have all played games with people we know don't belong even there.

The reason for this is that i have been seeing the level of play in skill lvl 1 games drop rather a lot lately and it's too large of a gap between skill lvl 1 and 2 as it is. Also this would allow for more skill lvl 2 games to be played by those who are good enough to play there without hurting the others that already are able to. For those who are able to and have played skill lvl 2 games you will know that the gameplay and metagame enjoyment is on a whole diffrent level than 0 or 1 lvl's.

Before any of this is coded i am interested to see how DLG's community feels about it and what your thoughts are.

Help and everything else Dotalicious / DLG General Rules
« on: December 23, 2010, 02:16:24 pm »
Firstly, we reserve the right to change the rules at any time and under any condition! The rules are in effect for every game in the future and in the past!

We expect you to have read our rules. Proving that you haven't by for example appealing justified penalties in our forums will always lead to extra ban time being handed out.

  • I General:

    • Common Sense!
All of these rules here are guidelines rather than rules. Common sense from the side of the mediators and admins can and will overrule any other rule stated here, although this will usually happen only as an exception.

    • No Ditching!
If you joined a game that went active, you have to join it. If you don't you will be banned for 72 minutes.
      (click to show/hide)

    • No Leaving!
If you leave a game, you will be automatically punished. No exceptions!
      (click to show/hide)

    • No Multiaccounting
1 account per person. You're not allowed to have more than one account per machine unless you declare multiple family members etc. This is especially important to do early on after joining DLG as it's more believable. A brother suddenly appearing 6 months after you started playing here is more than a bit suspicious.
Don't ever let others use your account on their own pc. This will cause you both to be banned.
Playing in a net cafe is not possible unless the owner has approved the net cafe on our website.

    • This is a Privilege
Playing on DotAlicious is a privilege. It's not your right. At our discretion we can at any time disable or delete an account.

    • Connections Issues
Make sure that your connection is stable and will not collapse while in a game. We have reconnection features to safeguard against this happening but it's not a guarantee that you will always reconnect. Check that your 24h disconnect or similar won't hit during the time you are playing. Be sure that you won't be disturbed and don't have to leave suddenly. We accept no excuses!
You get one joker per 100 games that is for emergencies. This is coded into our auto penalty system already. No one should need more than that.

    • Choose a Close Server
It's your duty to choose the right server to play on. If you're causing the game to be unenjoyable due to permanent lagging or frequent disconnects, it might get you banned. You can use the ping checker to see what servers are suited to your location. (A ping below 100ms is advised!)
If we do not have a server in your proximity, please do not join any games since you will ruin them for yourself and others. If you're interested in allowing us to use a server you own, please contact us.

  • II Behavior:

    • No Hatred!
Flaming is tolerated to a certain degree, as long as it is for fun or tactical, and only if it's directed towards your enemies and regards the game.
If it's no fun or becomes too much, i.e. Personal attacks or someone is legitimately offended then it has gone too far and is not allowed, and you are required to apologize.

    • No Whining!
Don't make your team feel bad or kill the moral of your team by whining about how lost a game is. No one wants to hear that.
Also don't make bad players feel bad. It won't help the game. Rather give them tips on how to play better or explain to them what they're doing wrong.
ie: Rushing refresher on treant is pointless since he hasn't got enough mana to use 2x ulties + refresher. It's better if you build (insert suggestion)... also, please get boots.
      :P

    • No Offensive Language!
This means: No racism, sexism or anything like that. We won't tolerate it. this applies to the shoutbox, forum as well as in game.

    • No Spamming!
Spamming in chat, or using bot commands excessively is forbidden. No one likes a cluttered screen.

    • Common Decency / Courtesy!
Be nice. Don't be rude. Especially towards players perceived less skillful than yourself. Also remember the staff members names. Chances are you will end up in a game with them. Say hello.

    • Talk English!
Please always use English. If you speak another language and someone asks you nicely to speak english instead (e.g. "english pls"), you have to speak english or explain why you aren't. Whether the reason is appropriate or not will be decided according to rule (I.1)

  • III Game Related:

    • No Gameplay Rules!
Everything the DotA map allows you to do (on purpose and by design) is allowed. That does not mean, that you're allowed to abuse bugs, since they are not in the maps code by design or purpose. Report bugs that are found to Aussie or directly to Icefrog.
      This means:
Backdooring is allowed and no item restrictions per team.

    • No Bug Abuse!
As already mentioned in rule (III.1), using bugs in the map or the bot is strictly forbidden. If we catch you doing that, you will get a very severe penalty.

    • No Gameruining!
You may do everything the map allows you to according to rules (III.1) and (III.2), but that does not mean you're allowed to buy an army of chickens and send them to the enemy or similar things. If you purposefully play to harm your team it will get you banned.

    • No Hacks!
Programs like maphacks, manabars and similar are not allowed. Only Dota Theme Manager and Hotkey programs are allowed. Macro's and scripts are also forbidden.

    • Stay Updated
Keep your programs updated, always have the right Wc3 version (listed in game information) and the right map (also listed in game information). If you have an old map you will not be able to join which will give you a ditch and therefore a ban (Rule (I.1)). If you have the wrong Wc3 version you might cause a desync and get banned. Log onto battle.net before you join a game and it will automatically update it for you.

    • No Game Modes!
Entering a game mode is strictly forbidden! You may not enter a mode under any circumstances. The bot handles the mode in any case! (i.e. -normal is a game mode, it is not an invitation for you to enter whatever you like). Same goes for other commands like -wtf or -test. this is punishable by death.

  • IV Bot Related:

    • No Bug Abuse!
As well as in games, if you find a bug in our software (i.e. Bot or Website) you must report the bug in the BUGS forum, unless somebody already reported it recently. Abusing bugs in the software will get you banned.

    • No Command Abuse!
Every command in the host bots have a specific purpose. Using the commands otherwise (e.g. spamming !ping) is a major offense. This includes purposefully using !pause while there is something important going on on the map (e.g. team fight, hero pursuit etc.)

    • No Saving the Game!
Saving the game is forbidden unless every player in the game agrees to the process. If a game is saved and then continued on a private host (continuing on DLG is not possible), the results of that game do not count and should be annulled. Contact an admin to do this for you.

Post pictures of yourself. Get to know one another a bit better. Associate a face with the nick. Personally i don't mind posting embarassing/drunk/etc pictures of myself. If you want something in particular from a member or myself. Then just ask in the thread.
Just remember the following:

No faggotry
No senseless spam
No flame
No off-topic

I will moderate this thread heavily if needed.

I guess i'll start with myself. I'll post 1 now and some more later once thread has started to grow. This was taken in greece summer 2007.

DON'T flame, Don't get into discussions with each other about the small stuff. Just post your own thoughts please.

I WILL moderate this thread heavily.
